While Onno’s branch in Badaro may have introduced the place to a wider clientele, the Bourj Hammoud branch retains its clout as the original 1985 eatery that started it all. While the setting is notably basic, the food more than makes up for the minimalistic location. This was the best-kept secret of Armenian cuisine. The original Onno, a hole in the wall of a place nestled within the maze-like streets of Bourj Hammoud (The little Armenia of Lebanon), has always been a culinary destination exclusive to people in the know. Its under-the-radar location almost makes you feel you have to earn your meal at Onno: if you find it, you win the jackpot. Don’t expect fanciness or sophisitication here. The 24 seat place is the closest thing to a home-away-for-home restaurant there is. With affordable prices and fresh, tasty ingredients, dishes served up at Onno will satisfy both your hunger and your wallet. Classics such as Kabab Karaz (cherry kabab) or Manti are must-tries.
