Metropolis / Empire Sofil

Metropolis Art Cinema is the only association in Beirut that is dedicated to show intelligent cinema in Lebanon. Created in 2006 the Metropolis Association stepped in to fill the rather large gap in cinema culture left by the absence of public cultural policy of the Lebanese state.

The program it produces is highly diversified and always contains interesting choices. If you are looking for a stimulating movie experience away from the Hollywood mainstream this program should be the first you look at.

Yearly festivals such as the Beirut Film Days or the European Film festival, which by the way are the main cinematographic events in Lebanon (usually packed, so do try and get tickets in advance) always feature many films worth watching. It also features less regular events like the Greek Film week or similar themed programs that are alway worth exploring.

Collaboration with such prestigious institutions as the French cultural channel ARTE and the Cannes Film Festival" feed the ARTE Film Week and the Cannes’ Critics Week.

These special events are accompanied by a regular program that features author cinema from the region and beyond. With an early show that usually offers something for younger viewers. Metropolis / Sofil is a destination for the whole family as well as for Cinephiles of all walks of life.
