27 Cafe Pub

27 is a reliable Badaro staple with a casual atmosphere, open taps and a musical twist.

For Fouad Madhoun 27 was always a lucky number and so when he decided to establish his café-bar in Badaro the name was an obvious choice. As the second major opening on Badaro’s formerly indistinguishable main street the success of 27 was uncertain, but today the number seems to have worked its magic. The area has grown into a nightlife epicenter and 27 has grown with it.

As the café and bar became more popular the venue’s numerical theme has happily adapted. Its original 27 chairs have swelled to over 60, and the menu’s initial 27 items have increased as well to offer customers a more diverse range of edible selections. However, the number’s significance hasn’t disappeared entirely; happy hour runs all day and still ends at 8:27 exactly.

But if 27 has been a lucky number for Mr. Madhoun it’s been the opposite for a handful of young rock stars. Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and more recently Amy Winehouse have all coincidentally met their untimely fate in their 27th year. The walls of the bistro bar pay homage to these fallen heroes displaying artistic portraits, which demonstrate that “the legend lives on.” Despite this appreciation for music, don’t worry, a night at 27 won’t dull your hearing or prevent you from catching up with your friends. This is a great place to chill out and assuage your workweek bruises with a drink and good company.

In addition to the business crowd 27’s selection of draft beers also draws Europeans and other foreigners to its taps. Summer nights can be enjoyed from the outside seating area and drinks can be conveniently purchased from the bar’s side access window. Other popular orders include pizzas and seasonal cocktails, but don’t expect anything too experimental.

On the 27th of each month the venue hosts special events like live music or features an all-day happy hour. On occasion management lowers the projector screen and broadcasts the must-see soccer games. If you’re looking to kick it at a reliable bar in Badaro, 27 could be the place to spend your afternoon.
