Barbar Hamra

This Hamra institution opened as a humble bakery in 1982, and has maintained a reputation as the classic late night snack spot, and also a popular family restaurant.

In its Hamra branch, Barbar can fulfil all your late night and day time food cravings, all in one convenient location. Barbar is comprised of several small stalls.  The juice shop makes fresh orange and pomegranate as well as more ambitious fruit mixes. The bakery serves small maajanat, sandwiches, as well as delicious lahambajin (try with pickles and hot pepper) and manaqish (cheese 3,000LL, Zaatar 2,000LL).  We highly recommend the spicy steak sandwich, especially late at night, and the small crab sandwiches are popular as well.  Fresh hot falafel and shawarma are located in a separate stall and are highly recommended.  A separate stall serves fresh grilled meat made to order.  Last but not least, there is ICECREAM!

A substantive restaurant area accommodates some thirty tables for dine in.  Order and pay for your food ahead at the cashier, and then wait for quick service at no-nonsense tables.  Prepared Lebanese foods can also been ordered to eat in, or for take out (the tabbouli for example, is surprisingly good).  There is also a plat du jour offered for 16,000LL.  The Hamra location also has a butcher shop, from which you can also order freshly prepared Kafta and cuts of meat.

Barbar is open 24 hours and there is almost always a line.  Fear not, however, if after a long night of clubbing, you are craving that late night lahambajin.  Barbar has valet.  If you are lucky enough to be able to pull up right in front, a specialized Barbar car waiter will take your order while you lounge comfortably in the driver’s seat listening to Elissa.
